2009 Portlaoise Charity Truck Show Safety Event.

 Road Safety Authority Interactive Safety shuttle

                                  

The Road Safety Authority shuttle dimensions (opened out) are 16.3 metres long x 8.5 metres wide. This is a custom built vehicle with a full range of interactive safety displays & simulators.

 The RSA exhibition trailer will play an integral role in increasing and developing road safety awareness at local and national level. This will be achieved through an interactive Roadshow Vehicle which is fitted out and designed to the highest standard. The Roadshow Vehicle includes the following facilities:

 · A fully interactive, educational road safety experience

· A fully equipped presentation area, with lectern, projector, screen and seating for an audience of 25 people

· A driving simulator enclosed in a specially designed pod

· A motorbike simulator

· Reaction timers

· 6 x Computers equipped with the Driver Theory Test and RSA website

· Exhibition areas to promote road safety

· Plasma screen showing a series of road safety advertisements and road safety   programming

·         Road User Behaviour accounts for 92.2% of all fatalities on Irish roads.

·         There is an average of 28,000 collisions on our roads each year.

·         There has been a 20% drop in deaths on Irish roads since the launch of the Government's first road safety strategy in 1998. This has been achieved despite a 52% increase in the number of vehicles on our roads.

2009 Republic Of Ireland Strongest Man

Competition.

 One of the main highlights for this year show will be the  2009 Republic Of Ireland Strongest Man Competition. This event is being hosted by Glenn Ross, Uk’s Strongest man as recently seen on the Ant & Dec show & founder of the Irish strongman Association.

 Strongman Athletes from the 26 counties will battle it out for the Republic Of Ireland Strongest Man & receive the King Fionn trophy. This is the ultimate test for strength & endurance & incorporates some of the following

                 

                      1. Truck Pull - Harness Only x1

2. Viking Press x1

              3. Car Deadlift for max x1

                        4. Farmers Walk for Distance x2

                            5. Pythagoras Atlas Stones Test x1

                   6. Rubber Man -Flip + Drag x2

 

This event is currently attracting huge interest.

Model Truck Show Competition event.

This year brings Tomasz Poskrobko and his amazing Model Truck Show Competition. In this Tomasz will bring  over 60 pieces of hand made and assembled model trucks which are submitted by participants. These will be  judged & awarded. Tomasz will also be able to give invaluable advice on model making & part making for Model trucks. A must for boy’s of all ages.

 

                         

 

 

 

ENTERTAINMENT.

 

Some entertainment currently lined up, Saturday Night at the Club House, kicking off with BLUEPRINT one of Laois  hardest working bands, hear everything from the 60’s up to the modern day. Hot on their heels will be well known DJ PJ Dempsey a great combination of floor fillers to keep everyone happy up until the early hours.

 

Sunday will have The REAL DEAL live on stage performing throughout the afternoon also Glenn Ross & DJ will be hosting The Republic of Ireland Strongest Man Competition from 1.opm - 5pm.

 In the Club House from 2.30 - 5.30 will see the return of BOZO THE CLOWN. This show was a huge hit with the younger kids last year.

BOZO will perform a host of tricks & gags to keep both kids & adults entertained. Watch out for the face painting.                   

 

Outside will be Bouncy Castles, Rodeo bull & lots of other kids entertainment, Burgers, Chips, Crepes , Ice Cream & Candy Floss.

 Watch out for the Tomasz & his Model Truck Show competition which will be in the Changing Room Building along with other demonstrations.

 In the main Car Park close to the Club House a whole range of activities will be taking place, Cyril Dempsey of Gerry Corcoran Recovery Services will perform the now famous Truck Roll & Recovery. Close by Portlaoise Fire Brigade will be showing off their new Fire Engine to the delight of all the children.

 

Also in the main Car Park this year will see the hosting of a Major Road Safety Event in conjunction with The Road Safety Authority & The Gardai Traffic Corps. This will include  the new RSA Safety Shuttle which houses a 25 seater cinema, simulators, reaction timers & lots of other interactive safety displays. 10am - 6pm

 

The Republic Of Ireland Strongest Man Competition will be held in the main Car Park, this will be hosted by Glenn Ross ( UK’s Strongest man ) This is currently attracting huge interest. This will be a real show stopper. 1pm - 5pm

 

Lots of stalls to be found round the site including some of Laois’s finest crafters, a lot of interest in this last year.

 

If you tire of all of this activity you can wander up to the Hockey Pitch which will have all of the trucks on display also up in this area will be the Modified Car Demonstration.

 This year will also see the very first MOFFET MOUNTY Challenge, 3 of our top men will take on 3 of the best from Moffet Engineering to see who really can handle these machines. This will be a set obstacle course.

 Also lots of truck accessory stalls & vendors a must for anyone in the industry, including the attendance of ZENLOK with their brand new container alarm.

Helicopter Rides.

 

Another addition to our events & entertainment this year will be the attendance of EXECUTIVE HELICOPTERS. Pilots Chris Shiel & Robert Carpenter will be able to give you the birds eye view of Portlaoise & the surrounding area. Helicopter rides available all day, subject to weather conditions.
